MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – Somali government security forces have shot dead two men suspected of belonging to Al-Shabaab, after a brief shootout that took place on Wednesday in Mogadishu, according to officials. It has been confirmed that one soldier was injured in the shootout, while a civilian was also killed in the shootout.

The shootout took place in Gubta neighborhood, after the two armed militias tried to ambush Somali police officers stationed in the neighborhood, according to the Somali Police Command. The soldiers opened fire, killing the two assailants.

“The Somali Police Force, especially those from the Deniile district station, killed two armed men belonging to Al-Shabaab near Gubta Garage. The militants engaged and were eliminated while trying to kill police officers. “One soldier was injured but successfully foiled the attack,” the statement said.

The authorities said that the weapons they were carrying were recovered from the slain fighters, and an investigation is underway to find out if they are related to other planned attacks.

This attack comes at a time when security operations are underway in Mogadishu, as the authorities have stepped up operations against terrorist groups, as recently there has been an increase in killings and explosions. Despite these measures, the group continues to be dangerous, especially in the capital and other urban centers.

Security officials have urged people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as authorities are working to prevent further attacks.

Al-Shabaab, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, often carries out planned assassinations and bombings in Mogadishu targeting Somali government forces, government officials and civilians. This extremist group has been waging a revolution against the internationally recognized government of Somalia for ten years.
