Dar es Salam (KAAB TV) – The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended the 26th Extraordinary Summit of the Heads of the East African Economic Cooperation (EAC) on Wednesday, 29 January.
The conference, held at a distance, discussed the renewed war crisis in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
President Hassan Sheikh said that the government of Somalia is concerned about the situation in Congo, calling on the warring parties to unconditionally end the civil conflict and return to the dialogue table.
“The President stood on Somalia’s experience of civil conflict and the negative consequences, and suggested the warring parties to protect civilian areas and diplomatic centers, in accordance with international rules and human rights,” said a statement issued by the Somali Presidency.
An urgent meeting to discuss the situation in Congo DRC is expected to be held by the Heads of State of the East African Economic Cooperation.
