The planes were American Express carrying 60 people and a helicopter carrying 3 of the US Army.
Emergency services and various units of the United States military are conducting operations in the Potomac River and other areas to find people on planes.
The latest reports indicate that the search is still ongoing for the missing personnel that were in the two planes.
